Many online digital products and services are geo-restricted. Geo-blocking is a discriminative system used to limit access to the internet based on geographical location. This is mostly due to licensing agreements and website policies to protect the users and devices from potential financial risks or fraud. But in many cases, it is not within our control.
When it comes to the Play Store, different regions have different versions of the store. Google Play Store block users by determining your location/country through these ways:
- Your Google Wallet Settings
- Your Google Account information determines the Play Store location you get.
- The IP Address
Google Play gift country problem
To use a Google Play gift card or promotional code, the country of your Google Account must match the country where the product is offered. Below you can find an overview of the most common error messages and the corresponding solution.
How to solve it?
|1. Code may be invalid.||
1a. Copy paste the Google Play code that we delivered to prevent any typo errors, and don’t use spaces or dashes when you type in the code.
1b. Try to redeem the code at Play.google.com or through the Google play store on your device.
|2. Error redeeming code||
2a. You need to update the region/address settings of your Google Play account.
|3. Code already redeemed||
3a. If you have several Google Play account, check if you have redeemed the code in another account. You can switch accounts on your mobile device or computer to check your balance.
|4. Cards are not valid in your country or are unable to redeem it||
4a. You need to change your account country/region ***

Note: Verify if VPN use is acceptable to your financial institutions when doing online transactions. Many of them will not allow VPN use as they want to track your IP address as a basic security measure.
